Description. The Alice Austen House was the home of Alice Austen, one of the earliest female [and lesbian] professional photographers, who was born in 1866 and lived most of her life here. The house is also one of the oldest on Staten Island, as it was built in 1690. The Alice Austen House hosts photo and other art exhibits. Admission $12.

Description. The 911 Memorial is a few blocks walk west of the St. George Ferry Terminal. It commemorates those who died in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.

They describe the event as follows, "... Dr. William Baker is an author, filmmaker, professor, and long-time media executive. He is a seven times Emmy Award winning producer, twenty year president of the PBS flagship station, WNET in New York ... Description. This is a fairly new museum established in 2015 to tell the tale about lighthouses and their keepers. It is on the former site of the U.S. Lighthouse Service.
Location. National Lighthouse Museum is located at 200 Promenade, which is a couple block walk east along the waterfront from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.

Current & Upcoming. Moonlight in Tuscany - Example Program. In 2018 they held a discussion of a new book about an American's trip to Tuscany for a cooking class. D'amore ensues. They regularly host similar events of an historic and cultural nature.
Description. The Garibaldi Meucci Museum is a centuries old home that was the abode of a great Italian inventor who is arguably one of the inventors of the telephone - Antonio Meucci. He was host to Guisseppe Garibaldi, a military general and strategist, who is credited with unifying Italy in the mid 1800's. The home has been preserved with the help of an Italian association. I. Memorial Day Celebrations. Fleet Week comes to Staten Island every year in late May with celebrations along the northeast and east waterfronts.
II. St Patrick's Parade. A traditional St. Patricks Day Parade in West Brighton on March 17th. Lately embroiled in controversy as the last remaining St Pat's Parade to ban participants from marching as openly gay.
III. Travis 4th of July Parade. Good old fashioned 4th of July parade in Travis Chelsea neighborhood of Staten Island.
IV. Columbus Day Parade / Italian Festival at Mount Loretto. The Staten Island Columbus Day Parade morphed into the Italian Festival at Mount Loretto, which is celebrated over the Columbus Day Weekend in October.
V. Veterans' Day Commemoration usually on the week before the Veterans Parade in NYC.

Mulchfest in NYC Parks 2024
Saturday & Sunday, January 6 & 7, 2024 from 10 am - 2 pm. This is the last weekend of Mulchfest. Mulchfest is an NYC Parks Department program to recycle Christmas trees and wreaths by mulching them and then either keeping the mulch to be used in NYC Parks or returning the mulch to the tree donor for them to use in their garden or house plants. The Mulchfest sites in each borough are: Brook Park in the Bronx, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, Tompkins Square Park in Manhattan, Juniper Valley Park in Queens and Cloves Lake Park on Staten Island.

This is a ride where cyclists can bike up to a 100 mile course within the NYC city limits.

Description. Snug Harbor is one of Staten Island's premier cultural centers. It's a large complex located on the northern tip of the island, not far west of St. Georges Ferry Terminal. Snug Harbor is home to the Staten Island Museum, the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, the Noble Martime Collection, the Staten Island Children's Museum, the Collumcille Irish Cultural Center and several separate buildings which are open on a limited basis, including the Governor's House, the Veterans' Memorial Hall and the World Trade Center Educational Tribute.
