The pandemic may have hit our community hard, but we're determined to bring everyone back together with the opportunity to laugh at ourselves and our neighbors. In this original musical comedy written and created by native Staten Islanders Matt Izzo and Sal Volpe, borough residents burst into song and dance as they explore well-known locations across Richmond County where they may encounter a romance on the ferry or a betrayal at the mall. Are dancing turkeys, spot-saving traffic cones, and some charismatic mall walkers enough to keep our characters in this beloved borough, or is it time for them to cross the bridge to a new terrain known as New Jersey?" Waiting for Lefty is a string of seven fairly short vignettes about cabbies contemplating a strike in 1935 when the play was first produced. In watery tunnels, the elements of Planet Earth now cry out for sustenance. Water, Air, the Green of the Plants, the Electricity of Light, and the Torrential power of the Ocean come alive, dancing before their eyes as the Conductor and Train Operator, with the help of a Subway Tracker, try to back their #2 train into Central Station for repair. Will the Earth survive man’s destruction and exploitation? Will the Life Force continue to make us feel the beauty of today and the promise of tomorrow? Will the support necessary for the survival of the planet materialize? “Life on the Third Rail…” addresses these questions with the grace and strength of an activist’s mission...".
